Preparation for an interview in today's job market is a very intricate process. This process starts with the submission of a resume. The resume review will determine if an applicant is even selected for an interview. Once the decision has been made and an invitation is extended for an interview, the process gets even more complex. However, one is able to prepare and overcome the stress normally encountered during an interview with confidence.

First and foremost, the company must be researched as well as the job position for which the applicant is being interviewed. It is important to research the company and to convert the information found about the company into potential questions the interviewer might ask. Next, practicing how to answer potential questions is another preparation phase. Managing this phase builds confidence as one gets ready for the interview. Developing success stories based on those questions is a must. Knowing the operation of the company, its future plans, and how to integrate those facts into potentials answers will be advantageous for the interview process.

There exists a variety of ways to conduct research in preparation for the interview. Some possible methods of conducting research are: visiting libraries, calling the company and asking for copies of its annual statements and reports, reading online blogs, obtaining information from the Better Business Bureau and possibly the courthouse files. Reading these documents will give the interviewee knowledge of potential areas where the company is mostly in need of help. This should place the interviewee in an advantageous position of confidence during the interview.

Finally, practicing the answers to potential interview questions is probably the best way to prepare. Purchasing an interview guide book at a local book store or getting one from the library should be beneficial in preparing. Recording the answers to questions and listening to them is also a critical preparation step. Having someone to ask the questions and who will critique the answers is probably best. During this preparation phrase it would be best to also practice stress control and deep breathing techniques to overcome interview fears. This is one of the most common ways to experience a bad interview from being nervous. Developing and demonstrating confidence and knowledge is the most desirable way to be successful and passing the interview in flying colors.
